Paul Shaffer, the Late Show bandleader, was so impressed by how much Brian La Blanc sounded like Neil Diamond that he encouraged him to form a tribute band.  Although you will see Brian onstage wearing the famous sequin shirt, he is so much more than an impersonator. He and the band focus on remaining true to the music, the arrangements and the sound created by Neil Diamond. You will really rock out when they play “Holly Holy!” ADMISSION FREE – ALL WELCOME!

Anna Maria Villa, the Italian-born jazz singer and entertainer, will be performing Italian classics, with a touch of jazz, a touch of romance, and a little fun… Italian-style! The songs are from the period of time in Italy referred to as La Dolce Vita, from approximately  1955-1965. Her style of singing has been described as smooth, elegant, soothing, and smoky. Her entertainment approach is sophisticated and fun. She will be accompanied by an extraordinary jazz trio consisting of Wayne Sabella on piano, Kenny Hassler on drums and Marty Confurius on upright bass.

Admission is free and Bethpage School District #21 residents will be seated first; out-of-area residents as space permits.  A Bethpage Library card is a ticket of admission for the cardholder and a companion.

Live at the Library: Something Special Big Band

This 16-piece ensemble with vocals is considered one of the finest jazz/swing bands in the area, playing old and new hits in the Count Basie style. Most of the band members have played with such greats as Benny Goodman, Harry James, Lionel Hampton, and Woody Herman. You’ll be dancing in the aisles to hits like “One O’Clock Jump”, “In the Mood”, “Tuxedo Junction” and “Jersey Bounce”!

The Town of Oyster Bay Department of Community and Youth Services, Cultural and Performing Arts Division, has cosponsored this program with the Bethpage Public Library as part of CAPA’s Distinguished Artists Concert Series, 2018/2019. Admission is free.

Singer/songwriter Drew Velting returns to the library with a different take on the American Folk Music songbook he plays. He has put together folk songs and ballads which tell tales of ghosts, spirits, hauntings, demons, pirates, shipwrecks, and more. Songs like “Captain Kidd”, “Pretty Polly”, “Witch of the Westmoreland”, and “Gallows Pole” are sure to put you in a Halloween mood!
