Rocky Revisted: 40 Years of Stallone's Sports Saga 5/31/2016 7:30:00 PM
Rocky Revisted: 40 Years of Stallone's Sports Saga
Presented by Clive Young, Author and Lecturer

This program doesn’t pull any punches as it explores the history of Sylvester Stallone’s signature character – the million to one shot boxer, Rocky Balboa, and his many movies. Amazingly, the first film almost didn’t get made. Shot in 28 days on a shoe-string budget, and written by Stallone himself in a spiral notebook, it was released in just a handful of theaters. Amazingly, Rocky went on to become the biggest hit of 1976, winning three Oscars, including Best Picture.

This fast-paced multimedia program explores the inspirations for characters, stories, and settings throughout the series, and follows the backstage drama behind all the films, from writing and casting the films to their critical and sometimes caustic receptions. A fun and entertaining evening to be had by all!

PORTRAIT SERIES: Arthur Miller at 100 6/2/2016 2:00:00 PM
PORTRAIT SERIES: Arthur Miller at 100
With Shirley Romaine, Actress

Arthur Miller was born in October of 1915 in Harlem, Manhattan. His voice and vision enriched the theater for more than half a century. His plays, many of them classics, tapped into the very soul of American society and into the lives of the men and women who sought to make sense of it. Headlines marking his death in 2005 declared him to be “The Last of the Giants” and “The Moral Voice of the American Theater.” His plays are regularly revived in New York City. Currently, a new interpretation of The Crucible, his most frequently performed work is running.
“Arthur Miller at 100” created and performed by actress Shirley Romaine, will include background on Miller and live performance and selections from his plays and films.
