Please bring last year’s return; W-2 forms from each employer; unemployment compensation statements, SSA-1099 forms if you were paid Social Security Benefits, all 1099 forms (1099 INT; 1099 DIV; 1099-B; etc.) showing interest and/or dividends and documentation showing original purchase price of sold assets, Social Security cards or other official documentation for yourself and all dependents; dependent care provider information, and forms indicating federal income tax paid.

Due to the increasing frequency of identity theft, the IRS now requires that tax preparers make positive identification of taxpayers by photo ID and Social Security cards. In addition the IRS mandates that for a joint tax return, both parties need to be present.

Please note: In lieu of a Social Security card, taxpayers may present their SSA Statement. Please be prepared to furnish both forms of identification when you arrive to have your return prepared.

ART IN THE AFTERNOON: The Dynamic World of Jackson Pollock 2/11/2016 2:00:00 PM
ART IN THE AFTERNOON: The Dynamic World of Jackson Pollock
With Thomas Germano, Professor of Art History, Farmingdale State College

In reaction to anxiety caused by the nuclear age, existential philosophy, and surrealism, a group of young artists developed a style termed “Abstract Expressionism.” Their leader was Jackson Pollock (1912-1956) who had roots in Kandinsky’s nonobjectivity, the art of Picasso, the improvisations of jazz, and the Indian sandpainting of his native Southwest. These influences coalesced in an art of powerful emotional appeal in which the paint that he dripped on canvases took on a vitality of its own, and a whirling quality that somewhat resembled the movements of interstellar galaxies. Pollock rebelled against the past, abandoning brush, easel, concepts of up and down, and identifiable subject matter to express his concern with painting as process. Although he died abruptly in a car crash, his art strongly impacted the work of De Kooning, Rothko, Frank Stella and others. Currently the MoMA is presenting a major survey exhibition of Pollock’s work until March 13, 2016. Paintings, drawings, prints, and engravings included in the exhibit will be explored in Professor Germano’s exciting lecture that will emphasize the experimentation at the core of Pollock’s creativity. A visual talk in stunning PowerPoint.
