CONVERSATION WITH MUSIC: The Artistry of Marilyn Horne

2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Bethpage Public Library
Auditorium & Lobby
With Marc Courtade,  Executive Director of the Huntington Arts Council

Known for her powerful voice, lyrical tone, and stunning vocal pyrotechnics, Marilyn Horne began honing her art when she started voice lessons at age 5. At the peak of her amazing career, Horne was called “probably the greatest singer in the world.” She is, without doubt, one of the finest mezzo-sopranos in opera history and is the best interpreter of Rossini in modern times.

Her career spanned over 40 years and her contributions to the opera world live on in her numerous recordings. Today, she actively oversees the Marilyn Horne Foundation, which helps to support young singers. She is a survivor of pancreatic cancer, and has received the Kennedy Center Honors, the National Medal of Arts, and was named the Metropolitan Opera’s first official legend.
