Starring: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Rachel McAdams
Rated: R (language); 121 minutes
A mysterious man on the run arrives in Hamburg Germany in the city’s Islamic community, desperate for help to recover his deceased father’s fraudulent fortune. Nothing about this man seems to make sense; is he a victim or a thief, or worse still, an extremist intent on destruction? A banker and a young female attorney are drawn into this web of intrigue, all the while being watched by the talented, unscrupulous chief of a covert German spy unit. In an adrenaline-laced and heart-rending escalation of tension and collision, it’s not long before he becomes everyone’s most wanted man. A Most Wanted Man, a clever tale of conspiracy in the vein of Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy, is also contemporary and deeply human, touching themes of love and rivalry.

PORTRAITS SERIES: Jackie Kennedy-Onassis

2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Bethpage Public Library
Auditorium
with Marilyn Carmino, Freelance Lecturer

Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis’ public persona as legendary First Lady is immediately recognizable. We remember her as an elegant, cool woman, who bravely stood and watched the oath of office administered to Lyndon Johnson after her husband’s assassination. However, the private life of Mrs. Kennedy-Onassis was said to be quite different than the public perception.

This presentation takes us beyond the familiar narrative of Jackie’s life, as told through over 100 photographs, many rarely seen. Jackie Kennedy was a bibliophile, equestrian, preservationist, mother, step-mother and family matriarch. You will come to know the private side of this intelligent and inspiring woman.

Bethpage Public Library
Auditorium
Presented by Howard Shurdut, Current Affairs Lecturer

The 2016 Presidential Election candidates have been chosen. Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton will battle for the hearts and minds of the American voters. Both have high negative numbers which indicates that each will try to increase their opponent’s “dislike” image with much vigor.

Domestic matters of race relations, income disparity, immigration policy, gun control, climate change legislation and the Supreme Court balance have strong advocates which will result in heated debates by politicians, media, and the public.

Howard Shurdut will lead a discussion to voice the audience’s views of the candidates and examine the possible direction that the country may be heading. A dynamic political conversation not to be missed!
